Phoenix Homesteads partnered with the City of Phoenix’s Community Canopy program to plant nearly 50 new trees throughout the neighborhood — part of our ongoing effort to preserve the shade and the towering Aleppo pines that give our streets their character. Below is a recap of our canopy celebration, plus resources for safely removing dead or hazardous trees.
Tree Canopy Celebration

In February 2026, neighbors gathered at the Park on 27th and Flower to celebrate the planting of nearly 50 new trees throughout the neighborhood. We hosted a pot-luck cookout with hot dogs, burgers and chips, Bring chairs or a blanket and something to share if you’d like. Meet representatives from the City, the PHA Board and get to know your neighbors.
Resources for Safe Tree Removal
The Canopy Grant does not provide for tree removal. We continue to work with the City of Phoenix for options to remove dead, dying or dangerous trees. These companies have toured our neighborhood and are familiar with safe tree removal procedures. Check back here for more information. As we receive updates, we will post them here.
