President Jacob Flick called the meeting to order following fellowship among those present.
Roll Call: Board members present: Jacob Flick, Denny Esford, Mark Shufeldt, and Andy DeKorte. Others present: Angelina Nye, Lynne Storms, and Penny Kotterman.
Motion to approve the PHA meeting minutes from January 24 and January 30 which Jacob highlighted – Approved.
Each of PHA “Big Three” events has a subcommittee to be responsible for the event, led by a chair who is on the PHA Board.
Bea chaired the “Breakfast at the Park” subcommittee.
Bea chaired the “Luminaria” subcommittee.
Bea and Denny will co-chair the “Ice Cream Social and Movie Night” subcommittee.
Denny will complete an inventory of all consumable goods in our storage facility that are used for our “Big Three” events.
Discussed the Ice Cream Social and Movie Night. The event is scheduled for April 11. Denny and Bea have discussed the tasks to be done. Carolyn will assist Bea with the ice cream and other food. Denny will be in Florida on April 11. However, Denny will bring the A/V equipment from the storage facility to his house on March 28. Adrian will evaluate it and make sure we have everything we need. Andy will purchase a DVD of the original 101 Dalmatians Disney movie. Note: Creighton School District does not allow streaming of movies in the park for copyright reasons.
Communication Committee Update from Penny.
Penny reported on the Communications Committee meeting on March 3.
The March Newsletter was distributed on March 6. It will be published on a schedule of the first Friday of each month, unless there is a holiday or other reason to change it.
Created a Poster template to use for future events, adding text or graphics we want. The first one is the Spring Party Poster.
Website changes have been made. Evaluation and suggestions are welcomed.
A mailer will be sent in April. It is planned to do the following:
Announce the PHA Annual Meeting on April 25 at 9am at Phoenix Christian Reformed Church (2438 E. Earll Drive)
Include a letter from the Board announcing the process for nominating Board Members, the proposal to update the PHA Bylaws, a brief financial update, and a note indicating that a board representative will talk about ideas for more interaction among PHA neighbors based on the results of the “What do you like to do for fun?” question that was asked as part of the neighborhood survey in Fall 2025.

Pending: Communications Committee will create a “Welcome Home” package for new neighbors and show to Board member at a future meeting.
Survey Updates. The results from the “What do you like to do for fun?” survey question included several ideas. A dog event might be the highest rated idea. Denny, Jacob, and Carolyn volunteered to serve on a “Dog Event Planning” Committee. Ideas include getting a sponsor, awards include best trick, best in show, and best walk.
Gardening received multiple mentions. Andy will talk to his neighbor Gabe about ideas for a community garden. Denny and Penny will host the first quarterly “Travelling Party” to increase social opportunities for our neighbors. The time is set for 6pm on March 14. Separately, it is not clear how to find enough people for a group book club or board game group.
This topic will be an agenda item at the April 25 PHA meeting. See minute 6.
Tree Project update from Lynne and Jacob. Lynne reported that nearly 50 trees have been planted in our neighborhood. Denny reported on his ongoing conversations about getting the city of Phoenix to fund removal of dangerous trees. To receive funding from the city will likely require demonstrating a dangerous situation on a case by case basis. Denny will continue his efforts.
Block Watch update. Denny gave an update on several line items related to the Block Watch grant request. The PHA will likely hear the response to our grant request in June. Block Watch Advisory Board Member Roger Pongratz was at the Tree Celebration on February 14 and talked to people about serving on Block Watch for PHA. Mark Shufeldt gave an update on the Gated Alley Program.
Treasurer Denny Esford shared a financial update. The current assets of PHA are balance is $5,260.85. The balance is a modest increase from recent years. 2026 Membership Income through March is $2072.90. Recent expenses post-Luminaria Festival are $342.93. See the attached report from Denny for more details.
Planning for 2026 PHA Leadership. There are conflicting statements in our existing bylaws from 1996 and other items that are no longer relevant. Denny, Jacob, and Andy reviewed the bylaws and brought an edited proposal to the Board meeting. Following more edits, the proposed changes were approved to be distributed to our neighbors before the April 25 Annual Meeting. There will be a vote on whether to ratify the changes.
Next Meeting: April 25 at 9am at Phoenix Christian Reformed Church (2438 E. Earll Drive). The Board will meet following the General Meeting and vote on the officers for the next year.
